Running ABLEä on Windows XP

Windows XP no longer ships with Microsoft Java, which is required to run ABLEä 6.  In addition, certain installations of Windows XP contain the Sun Java Plug-in, which is incompatible with ABLEä 6.  It is therefore necessary to perform the following steps to get ABLEä working:

  1. Download and install the latest ABLEä Client Setup utility from your binder or at the ABLEä web site at:

http://www.programmingconcepts.com/able/files/clientsetup.exe

  1. After installing the client setup, execute the msjavx86.exe in the c:\swing directory.  This will install Microsoft Java.
  2. It may be necessary to disable Sun Java and enable Microsoft Java as the default for the IE browser.  To do this bring up Internet Explorer and go to ToolsàInternet Options.  Select the Advanced tab and change the settings of the parameters surrounded by the red box below exactly as shown:

  1. Exit and restart Internet Explorer and run ABLEä.
