ABLE Library 6.6

April 2003.  Heckman Bindery, Inc. and Houchen Bindery Ltd. have both joined the ranks of binders that support ABLE Library. In addition to supporting our native ABLE format, ABLE can read and write Lars disks, so it can easily work as the Library Binding module for any of your Library clients--if you are a Lars Bindery--or if you have an in-house system.

ABLE's Z-link and A-link tools enable libraries to import binding information from their Z39.50 database or from any exported file such as Excel, Access, SQL or tab delimited. ABLE brings Marc information in to a binding record with proper formatting of title, author and call number--automatically. These features effectively eliminate data entry (and errors) at the library for monographs--all with the swipe of a barcode. 

With ABLE's Web based architecture, you will never need to visit a client again to support your library binding software because ABLE works from a server which can be located anywhere--usually right in your bindery.

In addition to this exciting news, I am pleased to report that we have a completely seamless, 2-way, barcode driven interface between ABLE and Ex Libris' Aleph ILS and will soon have a serials interface with Innovative Interfaces.  Ongoing discussions with other ILS vendors will hopefully lead to additional interface announcements in the near future.
