ABLE Partnership Announced

Mekatronics, Inc. takes great pleasure in announcing the formation of a partnership with six major Binders and Programming Concepts, Inc. (PCI). The binders are Acme Bookbinding, Information Conservation, Inc., Kater-Crafts Bookbinders, Lehmann Bookbinding, Ocker & Trapp Library Bindery, and National Library Bindery Co. of Georgia. PCI has been responsible for all of Mekatronics’ software products.

The Partnership’s first product is ABLE™ 6. ABLE™ 6 is now in its development stage and promises to be a major enhancement over its predecessor. ABLE™ 6 brings state-of-the-art library bindery preparation to the Internet. This is an aggressive project that will provide an opportunity to lower the costs for both libraries and binderies. Beta site testing of the ABLE™ Library component is targeted for the 3^rd quarter of 1999.

The ABLE™ 6 system features include:

• Internet Access or Traditional Configurations

• Download programs and upgrades over the Internet

• Catalog System Interface using Z-Link (Z39.50) from Island Edge Research, Inc.

• Electronic Transfer of Binding Shipment data

• ABLE™ Lite for Small Binderies

• And, the services from ABLE™ 5.1

ABLE™ has been in successful operation for the past twelve years and is used by major binderies in USA, Canada, UK, Germany and Japan. Some 400 libraries use the ABLE™ Library component. We are in an era of technological change similar to that of the industrial revolution in the early part of this century. Technology is driving capital spending.
