Wireless Experience
PCI
designs and develops wireless systems
for a wide range of applications as listed in the Highlights. We have
a solid foundation in wireless technologies gained in the last 15
years.
PCI Mobile Access
Services
It is estimated that in three years
there will be half a billion web enabled mobile phones.
By 2004,
more people will be using cell phones to connect to the
Internet than personal computers.
The wireless
revolution has now moved into the data world. The technology
for accessing your web site and Internet applications from a
Mobile Phone and PDA is here. You now have an additional
consideration when designing your web site and Internet
enabled applications: how do we make the information
available from a web enabled cell phone and PDA.
The enabling
technology is WAP (Wireless Application
Protocol) and WML (Wireless Markup Language).
WAP support on mobile phones and PDA's is here for the latest
devices. There are many web enabled mobile phones on the
market and more to come. WML is an extension of XML and there
are development tools available to create WML web pages.
There are numerous
web sites that are mobile access enabled. PCI
has a demo site you can try using your WAP enabled mobile
phone (or mobile phone emulator). The demo provides a real
time stock quote (courtesy of Netfeed Technology). The site
is,
www.programmingconcepts.com/wap
Enter a stock
symbol or select one that is listed. The current stock price
(real time) is displayed on your web-enabled mobile phone. A
mobile phone emulator (WAP enabled) from 3TL can be found
at,
http://www.3tl.com/MobileDevelopers/emulator.asp?CID=
This application
was rapidly developed (in days). The technology is here. As
always, there are pitfalls you need to consider: inconsistent
WAP standard, incompatible micro-browsers, service available,
and many more.
The Microsoft
solution to the compatibility problem is the Microsoft
Mobile Information Server and the Microsoft
Mobile Internet Toolkit. With these tools, mobile
devices are independent of the WML application in a similar
manner as a printer is independent of a MS-Word document.
Call
PCI to discuss your wireless application. There are
many opportunities to deliver web content and Internet
applications to wireless devices. Your company can profit from
this emerging technology and stay one step ahead of the
competition.

Advantage Wireless
Gateway
The Advantage Gateway (ADVX)
system is a store and forward protocol converter for the
wireless text messaging market. The system is deployed as a
mission-critical network element at many of the worlds largest
PCS, Cellular/Mobile, Paging and Satellite
carriers.
The Advantage system can be
configured to meet specific customer needs, including those of
wireless network operators, wireless infrastructure and device
manufacturers and Internet service providers. Customers can
offer their subscribers e-mail, news, shopping, stock quotes,
weather, travel and other information services.
ADVX supports both one-way
and two-way messaging configurations. The two-way
configuration is complex due to having to connect two parties
for two-way traffic.
The WCTP service is a
separate server within the ADVX Gateway system. The WCTP
protocol may require updating to the latest version depending
on client requirements.
Our customers include
Verizon, Motorola Israel, and ALLTEL.
